07-15-2004 10:10 PM. 1983 - 2012 Ranger & B-Series - 84 engine swap options - I have a 1984 4WD Ranger with 5-speed manual transmission and 2.8L V-6. I would like to swap in a different engine, but don't know what would match up to my transmission. I really don't want to convert up to fuel injected to keep things simple. Also another little note, since the motor is mounted North/South quite a few sections of the wiring harness had to be extended to reach the intercooler, intake, starter, and oil pressure sensor.
