Horizon Walker is perfectly serviceable as a Ranger archetype... and with a decent build can be a strong mid-ranged damage dealer, or possibly a decent mobile front-liner. Haste is a wonderful spell addition to the Ranger chassis, and pairs well with Hunter's Mark. So Carpone from the Lava Divers has been doing a bunch of DPS tests on Ranged builds. He's the same person that wrote up the Horizon Walker guide that most good players use as their Ranged dps build. According to him Bow is about 10% more DPS than Repeaters but Repeaters are about 30% more DPS than Inquisitive.

For Horizon Walker there's good synergy with arcane trickster because horizon walker is a ranger class you'll use more spells with. I think scout would be pretty cool with HW as well. Monster hunter/inquisitive is a combo I have and it's really fun.
