Just double checked on old ark you have to click in the box instead of using the slider, then instead of cranking it from 1.0 to 3.0 you can type any value like 100.0. Even if you set the tether distance to 1000+ ect, in the original Ark at least, non dedicated is still somewhat impossible if you want to do any caves as it breaks the tether no matter the distance.
